About Word Ladders
Word Ladder puzzles were invented by Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland, in 1877. Originally called "Doublets," the puzzles challenged players to transform one word into another by changing a single letter at each step.
Vocabulary Benefits
Clue-based word chains are a practical way to review spelling, make word associations, and encounter vocabulary in a playful format. They can work well as a short independent activity or a classroom warm-up.
Brain Training
The game combines clue solving, recall, pattern recognition, and quick spelling decisions. Treat the timer as a personal challenge rather than a measure of ability, and use hints when you want support.
