About Minesweeper
Minesweeper is one of the most iconic puzzle games ever made, bundled with Windows from 1990 through Windows 7. The goal is simple: uncover every square on a grid that doesn't hide a mine, guided only by numbered clues about neighbouring mines.
This version mirrors the classic Windows rules: Beginner is 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 30×16 with 99 mines. Your first click is always safe — mines are placed after you reveal the first square, so you can never lose on the opening move.
Best times are saved locally in your browser so you can track your personal records across sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I lose on the very first click?
No. The board places mines after your first click, so the square you open — and its immediate neighbours — are always mine-free.
What does chording do?
If you click a revealed number and you have already flagged exactly that many neighbouring mines, all remaining unflagged neighbours are revealed at once — a huge time saver.
How do I flag on mobile?
Long-press (hold for ~400 ms) any hidden square to toggle a flag on it, just like right-clicking on desktop.
Are my best times saved?
Yes — they're stored in your browser's local storage and persist between visits on the same device.
Is there a guaranteed-solvable mode?
Not yet. Like classic Minesweeper some boards may require a 50/50 guess. The first-click-safe guarantee removes the most unfair situation.
Does the mine counter go negative?
Yes — if you place more flags than there are mines the counter drops below zero, shown as a negative number, so you know you've over-flagged.
