Frequently Asked Questions

How many wrong guesses do I get?

You are allowed 6 wrong guesses. Each wrong guess adds a part to the stickman: head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, and right leg. If all 6 parts are drawn before you solve the word, the game ends.

What categories are available?

There are 10 vocabulary categories: Animals, Colors, Food, Countries, Sports, Body Parts, Jobs, Nature, Household, and School. Each category contains 20-25 words ranging from easy to challenging. The game randomly picks a word each round.

What is a good strategy for Hangman?

Start with vowels (A, E, I, O, U) since nearly every English word has at least one vowel. Then try common consonants like R, S, T, L, and N. Look at the word length and any revealed letters to narrow down the possibilities before guessing less common letters.

Can I use my keyboard to play?

Yes! You can press any letter on your physical keyboard to make a guess, in addition to clicking the on-screen letter buttons. This makes the game faster and more accessible.

Are my stats saved?

Yes! Your games played, wins, win streak, best streak, and win rate are all saved in your browser. They will be there next time you visit, as long as you use the same browser and have not cleared your browsing data.

What age is this game for?

Hangman is great for all ages. The simpler categories like Colors and Animals work well for young learners (ages 5+), while Jobs, Countries, and Nature categories offer more challenging words for older kids and adults. It is also an excellent tool for ESL students learning English vocabulary.
